MICK GLEISSNER BRINGS FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY TO NEW DEPTHS
Alternative Form of Photography in Underwater Setting
July 15, 2005 - Antwerp/Belgium/Cebu, Philippines On June 20, Underwater fashion Photographer, Mick Gleissner, wrapped up a ten-day photo shoot for the Nautical Angel
s under Water Calendar, featuring breathtaking images in an underwater setting. Fascinated with diving and photography, Mick decided to push the envelope by taking up the unique challenge of underwater fashion photography. With sports as a predominant theme, some of Mick’s photography included two female boxers in action atop an underwater boxing ring as well as a model slam-dunking a basketball. Achieving such unique shots involved an extensive production crew, propmasters, set designers, engineers and dive masters. A floating yacht served as the production facility.
A sister calendar to the Nautical Angels Calendar that is also produced by Mick Gleissner, the Nautical Angels under Water Calendar captures dreamlike images in the aquatic depths of the unknown. “Posing underwater produces some of the most visually stunning and surreal images. The many obstacles that the photographer and models face in such a challenging setting are what make these images all the more unique and remarkable.”, explained Mick.
Human factors include the ability of the models to open their eyes underwater, buoyancy control, breath holding skills and fat percentage. External factors like visibility, tide and underwater current can also greatly impede the underwater production.
